Weekend by Christopher Pike (1986, Paperback, Reprint)The book Weekend  by Christopher Pike  has a effect on me. The effect this book has on me happens to be making me wanna learn about the mexican culture more and be more peaceful and gentle and quiet like the wise man in the story. As I continue to read this book it becomes more intersting viewing the different characters. Sol a Mexican guy who is a cholo and loves trouble. Robin a peaceful young girl who happenes to be sick. A Latin Indian man who is peaceful an dloving also quiet and wise. Then there is Kerry a girl who has to get what she wants when she wants it. I looked and viewed all these different people and tried to think about how alot more people like the Latin Indian man more then anybody else in the book. This is the effect the book has on me.

Title: The Visitor

Identify a theme in your IRB. Describe events in your book that support this theme. (Highlight statement, proper nouns or numbers, and conclusion.)

My story The Visitor has a theme involved in it. The theme in my story is figuring out how Mary Weist a depressed,19 year old, beauitful girl and her dead boyfriend Jerry. She has found the mysterious of her dreams and visions. She was a Egyptian goddess in her past life but she was reincarnated. She never really figures out what the death of her boyfriend has todo with her or anything else thats going on. My conclusion for the theme of this story is her trying to figure out her history of her past life and why she is seeing these things.

R.L Stine reveals his attitude in his books. Stine never had a brutal child hood. He was actually very intersted in horror comic books. As he got older he began to write short novels filled with horror for young adults. As he grew older he decied to start writing novels for children. He has a skeleton in his studio to keep his office feeling eerie. Some of his novels for teenagers are The Boyfriend, Light's Out, and The Babysitter. How does the setting affect the meaning of the story?

The book Silent Night by R.L Stine is affected by a setting. The story about the young and stuck up Reva Dalby has to have a setting of Christmas and winter time. If I were to set this in China or Florida the climate would be completely different because there can't be a Santa in the summer or spring. The reason why it can't be located in China is because they don't believe in Christmas and it can't be located in florida because they're sunny all-year-round.

blog 4,finished "Speak"

September 28,2010

Describe the author's tone in your IRB and how the setting contribute's to that tone.

The setting affects the author's tone in the book Speak. Laurie Halse Anderson has a depressing tone throughout the story of the young 9th grader Melinda Sordino. She shows how bad everything is getting for Melinda how she is neglected at home, abused at school, friendless, and encountered again by Andy Evans in the janitor's closet, because she warned Rachel about what he did to her and might try and attempt to do it to Rachel. The setting contributes to this alot by her continuing to hid in her room closets and the janitor's closet. My conclusion about the tone of the author is sorrowful and pitiful.

How does the setting affect the mood in your IRB?

The setting in my story affects the mood. The high school Melinda Sordino goes to creates a depressing mood for the story. Melinda Sordino doesn't have anybody only a lab partner named David Petrakis and a art teacher named Mr.Freeman. Day after day she hids in the janitor's closet to escape from all the cliques, lies, and students. Her life in high school becomes so bad that she begins to skip the nevre wrecking school. She doesn't understand how life could get any worst at her school and she starts drawing picture and making it a habit of going in the closet.

What is the main character's motivation?

The main character in the book "Speak"which is Melinda Sordino has a motivation in the story.
Her motivation is to warn her former best friend Rachel that the guy that Rachel is currently dating which is a senior named Andy Evans is the main reason Melinda called the police on the party because he raped her. She wants to warn her because she fears that Andy will do the same thing he did to her to Rachel.
